This Roll of Honour contains the names of 370 aircrew of 550 Squadron, Royal Air Force who gave their lives flying while the squadron was on operations against the enemy between 26 November 1943 and May 1945.
It also gives the dates of their deaths; a double date (e.g. 26/27 Nov.) indicates a night raid, a single date (e.g. 14 Oct.) signifies a daylight raid.

Excellent site! Thank you.
My uncle James Arthur Trayhorn killed August 28th 1944 on the last 550 Squadron ‘Crossbow’ Raid against V1 sites Northern France. It would have been the 30th and last sortie on of their tour.
very intresting
Hi
On the roll of honour the name F/sgt D.J.Yemen RCAF as KIA is incorrect. I flew with him and he did survive Phforzeim, March 7/45.
This mistake was rectified some time ago but it has arisen again
F/O D.J.Hicks RCAF
I’ve updated the list. I don’t know where the information to make this list came from but it would be interesting to know how the mistake came about.
The error “F/Sgt. D.J. Yemen, RCAF 7 Mar. 1945″ was on the original (http://www.contact550.theraf.co.uk/) site (i.e. it is still there in the copy of the site files I received a short while ago on CD).
Very small correction to
F/L J.J. Craig, DFC, RNZAF 15/16 Mar. 1944
It should be J.F.Craig (James Fraser Craig)
He flew Hampdens in 144 squadron, with my father during 1941.
Good to see the site.
Wonderful website !
As a “Westerbekian” I researched the crash of Lanc PD221 and her crew, 3 Febr. 1945 in the village where I live. During this research, it was clear to me how many people, mainly youngsters, know so little about the horrifying airwar, the (local) losses of RAF Bomber Command in particular.
This was the start for me to research all RAF BC crashes (7) in the area (St. Anthonis municipality, southern Holland). This resulted in a modest book (80 pages/A4 format).
These heroic men, who played such a major role in regaining freedom worldwide, should not be forgotten. Hopefully my book is an add to in this case local airwartime history which is known by so few.
Warm regards,
Hans Ooms

Hello Hans -
It’s great to hear about your investigations. Is your book available? I could promote it on the front page if you liked.
I should like to obtain a copy of your book Hans, is this possible?
Many thanks,
Phil Trayhorn
Hello Mr. Trayhorn & Pritchard,
You should know the book is all Dutch (except some losscards and few other docs).
Is that a problem ?
Regards,
Hans Ooms
I can’t read Dutch, but I can promote it on the website if you let me know how.
Hello,
Phil, please contact me via my emailadress
sintanthoniscrashesAThotmail.com, okay ?
Cheers,
Hans
My father-in-law, Sgt. S. Pelham 7 Mar. 1945, is listed on your Roll Of Honour. Although he was shot down, he did actually survive the war and went on to marry, have 2 sons, 2 grandsons and 4 granddaughters (2 after his death). He sadly died on 30th July 1987.
Ref Sgt Stanley Pelham. 7/8th March. 1945. – Dessau. Raid
550/V. no PA995 along with my father the following Air Crew all survived
being shot down and becoming P.O.Ws. They were :-
Pilot .F/O. Jones.
Navigator. P/O. Buchmaster.
Air Bomber. F/Sgt. Harvey.
Flight Eng. Sgt. Webb.
Wireless Op. Sgt. Main (injured-broke leg on landing).
R/G. Sgt Smith. Returned to unit.
M/U/G. Sgt. Pelham (My Father.).
This information comes from reports found after Sgt Pelham’s wife died in October 2005.
This also extends information supplied by my wife Mrs Christine Pelham.
Should you wish for further information please contact me on my Email address. Thankyou.
Neil,
I’m updating the records on http://www.550squadronassociation.org.uk.
The names:
F/O C.J. Jones, RCAF 7/8 Mar. 1945
F/O J. Buckmaster, RCAF 7/8 Mar. 1945
W/O L.W. Harvey, RCAF 7/8 March 1945
are all on the Roll of Honour in St Denys’ Church North Killingholme :
http://www.550squadronassociation.org.uk/images/St-Denys-Church/DSCF0859-large.jpg
According to http://www.lostbombers.co.uk/bomber.php?id=11371
F/O C.J.Jones RCAF, F/O J.Buckmaster RCAF and WO2 L.W.Harvey RCAF were all KIA, two with unknown graves but one (WO2 L.W.Harvey) in Nederweert War Cemetery.
This differs from your account which, as I read it, has no air-crew KIA.
It would be great if you get in touch to help me straighten out the information. I could not find am email address for you here, please contact me on: admin@550squadronassocation.org.uk
The information I supplied came from a report Station Narrative No. 18
dated 13 th April 1945. If you would like my phone number I am prepared to supply.
Apologies for dealay in responding.

I was walking around my local church today at lunchtime and I came across a grave stone which caught my eye, it was of F/Sgt. W.R. Cooper 23/24 Dec. 1943 which is listed above i took a photo of the grave and did a search and came across this website with his name listed,. It said he died whilst on operations on the 24/dec and i wondered if anyone could tell me what the operation was? It made me feel honoured to have seen this and maybe it was ment to be. If you know about this.. please let me know.

See ops details at (raids on Berlin):

(search down for JB604, 23 Dec 1943).
If you have a photo I would be keen to put it online on a the Roll of Honour, if you would be agreeable (because as you can see from the link the information about the grave location is missing).
